Vishwak Sen, who’s rediscovering himself as a performer with every film, is teaming up with Anjali and Neha Sshetty for Gangs of Godavari, an intense gangster drama directed by Krishna Chaitanya. Yuvan Shankar Raja scores the music. Produced by S. Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas and presented by Srikara Studios, the film is set for release on May 31.
Ahead of the film’s release, the director of the film interacted with the media.
*I first shared the idea of the Gangs of Godavari with artist Anand Ramaraju, and from there we began working on the story. The film initially started with Sharwanand but Sharwa Garu asked to keep this movie on hold as his movie before this was an emotional film. Because of it, we have some gaps. Another movie of mine was also put on hold, and I was afraid that there would be a lot of gaps. Then I narrated this story to Vishwak, and he liked the story, and the film took off again.
*Just like you see in Rayalaseema and Telangana, there are murders and conflicts in Andhra as well. Showing Godavari in a picturesque way every time felt very cliche for me. We are not that; there is more to Godavari than just its nature. I wanted to be real. Through this movie, I got the opportunity to show a good story paired with good emotions. From production to the whole cast and crew, everyone supported my story. The entire story is fictional.
*My cinema got a U/A certificate. The film has three audio peaks. We used them during the trailer because there is no censor for the trailer. I wanted people to understand the intent of the movie. We started shooting for this movie on May 8, 2023, and finished by May 8, 2024. We wanted to shoot for 95 days, but we shot for 103 days. It took 8 more days to complete shooting.
*I didn’t make any changes to the story of Gangs of Godavari after Vishwak came on board. The only apprehension I had was the accent. Vishwak speaks Telangana and our story was set in Andhra backdrop. So I told him to focus a little more extra on the dialect. We hired a tutor. He learned for 15 days, and within a month, Vishwak did a good job.
*I watched the film and when I was watching it I found it very good and felt really happy about the output. I had tears in my eyes. Gangs of Godavari unfolds the saying “You are your own enemy.” I made this film within the limits of the liberty I got. Personally, this story is very close to me. Everyone can do action, but emotions can be shown only if you feel it. In this film, the last 20 minutes will be an emotional rollercoaster. It will hit people hard and I am very confident about it. This movie will be very emotional.
*We actually thought of Esha Rebba for the special song but due to some reasons, Ayesha Khan came on to the sets.
*All the actors did their best in their roles. This movie has so many gangs in it, but this is not a gangster story, and I request that people not consider it a gangster film. There are no gangsters in this movie. Yuvan Shankar Raja gave amazing music. I enjoyed his music a lot.
*I want to make a sequel for this movie; however, nothing has been finalised yet. If this movie turns out to be a hit, then I will write the sequel story in a month and make the film. My dream is to make a film with Pawan Kalyan.
*Working with Sithara Entertainment has been a pleasure for me. It was a fantastic experience. Words fall short to describe how good they are.
