I don’t really care about reviews. I do my work – Vara Lakshmi Sarath Kumar in ‘Sabari’ interview

Versatile actor Varalakshmi Sarathkumar in the lead role ‘Sabari’ is hitting the screens on May 3. The film is produced by Mahendranath Kundla under Maha Movies banner under Maharshi Kundla’s submission. Anil Katz is the director. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar spoke to the Telugu media on the occasion of release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada languages. Highlights of that interview…

How and when did the journey of ‘Sabari’ begin?
Heard the story of ‘Sabari’ before signing ‘Crack’. I like it very much. I said that I will make this film with faith in the story. However, the shooting started after many days. Unlike the typical regular negative shade role, he played a new role. The director and producer believed that I can do this role as an artist. They came forward to make a female oriented film. They should be praised for that. The producer made the film without compromising on the cost. It is a psychological thriller. Everyone likes it.

Director producers are new. Doesn’t it feel like a risk to do this film?
Life is a risk. ‘Hanuman’ was thought to be a small film. It was a big hit. It was not expected that the films ‘Naandi’ and ‘Kota Bommali PS’ would achieve such good success. We made a different film. I am confident that the audience will like it. When we make a film, we do not understand the subject but we make the film with the belief that it will be a hit.

There are some fears when new producers enter the industry. What kind of confidence did producer Mahendranath Kundla instill in you?
If you see the press meet of ‘Sabari’, everyone talked about the producer. Because… He is a genuine person. There is no mentality to cheat anyone. Payment comes before asking. Despite exceeding the budget, the film was completed without giving up in the middle.

Did Ganesh Venkatraman cast opposite you in the film? Are there action scenes between you?
You have to watch the movie to know that. Screenplay driven movie ‘Shabari’. Gives a new thrill to the audience. There will be a different action. There will be natural fight sequences.

What is your role in the movie ‘Sabari’? A challenging moment?

Not the Angry Young Lady. A simple girl. Due to problems with her husband, she separates from him and raises her daughter alone. what happened to her is the story. Got a chance to perform settled. There will be no loud moments. A mother’s anger when protecting her daughter is different from normal anger. A chance to show a different anger. The mother and daughter connection will be highlighted in the movie. The story is about what the mother did to protect her daughter.

Is there any pressure while leading the main?
The only pressure I have is to give a good film to the audience. Hitta flopa is decided by them. The audience coming out of the theater should not think that her performance was not good.

Angry woman roles are doing parallel roles with the hero. How do you feel about the role of mother at this time?

I played the role of a mother in my first film ‘Poda Podi’. It was done in ‘Pandem Kodi 2’. I am an actor. I will do it when I get the character I like. I don’t care about image. Whatever is shown to the audience in the film, they will accept it. If the content is good, the audience will watch the movie.

He told the producer that he will do another film!
Yes, I gave it. If there is a good story, I will definitely do it.

When do you want to get married?
I hope this year.

What does Nikolai, the future husband, say about your films?
He tells it like it is. It is said that it is not bad. They say good is good. He has no chance to say no (laughs). If not, he has not got the chance to say no.

Next movies?
The movie ‘Kurma Nayaki’ is ready for release. Along with Dhanush’s film, I am doing another film in Tamil. I did Sudeep’s ‘Max’ in Kannada. Two or three more films are under discussion. I will make it official as soon as it is confirmed.
