Indian film industry (especially Telugu film industry) has always been a male dominating one. Telugu film fans revere their heroes like demigods. Initially Telugu film industry started as a female centric industry where yesteryear heroines (black and white era) used to charge more than heroes. Slowly it’s changed to male centric industry by the time of eastman color films.
Vijaya Shanti was the first heroine with lady superstar tag in the age of color cinema with films like Karthavyam. These were heroine centric films and it doesn’t matter who the lover/husband of heroine is. After that, it was Anushka who made a name for herself as star with Arundhati and Bhagmathi.
After Vijaya Shanti and Anushka, there is again a void as no films are made with star heroine as central subject. Samantha in her first attempt at such films has worked for Oh Baby film where her role and her performance form the crux of the film. She pulled it off with such a command that Oh Baby went on to become a huge grosser. It now collects a gross of Rs. 35 crores in 2 weeks.
Samantha is always known for her right judgment and high talent coupled with a bit of luck. We hope that she will scale new heights as star heroine without missing commercial aspect of the content films she chooses.
